This type of craftsmanship, forerunner to the art of the renaissance, shows how concerned the artists were to religious symbolism. We find the archangel to have a human face and the composure of a militant person. The golden light, which shines on his arms and face and surrounds him, results in an abstraction, universal to Byzantine art.
